René Barbier, descendant from a known family of French Winemakers, came to the Priorat when the wines from this area were still totally unknown. He bet successfully on the recovery of this unique region and became the first of the pioneers of the new reds from the Priorat.

In 1979 he bought a small property of 20 hectares in Gratallops where he planted Grenache, Carignan, Syrah and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon. With that the journey of Clos Mogador began. Continuously inspired by this region, René tries to capture in his wines its unique flavour, giving room to a “Vino de finca”. Vino de finca is a different qualification, which is a further degree of quality augmenting the existing DOQ Priorat, guaranteeing that all the grapes used for this vintage, and those of the past 5 years, come entirely and exclusively from the Domaine Clos Mogador. Later, between Manyetes (Vi de vila Gratallops) and Nelin (white), he acquires approximately 20 hectares more.

Always haunted by the terroir, Rene tries to capture in his wines the classical of the area.
